The Department referred 16 children under five years
of age to institutions for sick and ailing children during
1935, and in one case a mother and baby were admitted to
a convalescent home.
Minor Ailments Clinic.
The policy of early treatment of the pre-school child is
carried out, and thus with the benefits of the facilities
of the School Medical Service, we are able to minimise
gross physical defectiveness in the school entrant.
Treatment in 107 cases was carried out at the School
Clinic as follows:—
Minor ailments 59
Tonsil and Adenoid operations 18
Eye defects 21
Orthopaedic 9
Dental Clinic.
The number of cases treated during 1935 were:—
Expectant. mothers or nursing
mothers 42
Children under five year of age 51
Ophthalmia Neonatorum.
There were three cases notified under the Public
Health (Ophthalmia Neonatorum) Regulations, 1926.
Each case received hospital treatment. In two cases vision
has been impaired and the patients are still under
treatment.

Diarrhoea and Enteritis.

It. is satisfactory to note that only one death is recorded within Bromley in 1935. The mortality rate per 1,000 live births is given in the following comparative table
