REPORT OF THE BROMLEY CHILDREN'S CARE
COMMITTEE, 1934.
This Committee, which has been functioning for
twenty-five years, is an adjunct of the School Medical
Service, and brings voluntary effort into the services of the
Education Committee which is always so valuable to all
State services. Children attending elementary schools,
who are in need of assistance as recommended by the
School Medical Officer, are referred to this Committee for
following-up. The home is visited by a member of the
Committee who reports back to the School Medical Officer
on the family circumstances, and the Committee provides
the required assistance to the necessitous case. The
assistance given varies from convalescent treatment to the
provision of boots, milk, glasses, etc. The parents in turn
pay according to their means. In addition to home
visiting by the members of the Committee they attend the
various clinics and give valued assistance in the smooth
running of these clinics. This regular attendance at the
School Clinic is an important function of the Committee.
There are twenty-one ladies who give at least half a day
a week and many give one whole day.
The year 1934 saw a fall in the number of cases
assisted, one reason being the adoption of the scheme for
the provision of milk in schools at a reduced rate of id.
per child. Many parents are now able to afford the 2½d.
