Meat which has been inspected and found unfit for human
consumption is removed to the Refuse Destructor and burnt. A
list of meat and other food surrendered as unsound is given below:—
Meat:—
Part of Forequarters and Lungs of Bullock. Weight,
40 lb.
Small portion of Veal and Ham Paste. Weight,
2¼ oz.
Lungs of Bullock. Weight about 8 lb.
Fish:—
5 stone of Skate.
1 box of Kippers.
12 boxes of Tinned Sardine and Anchovy Paste.
Weight, 16 cwt.
1 box of Smoked Codling.
Fruit:—
26 boxes of Apples.
25 boxes of Apples. Weight, 3½ cwt.
20 boxes of Pears.
The small portion of Veal and Ham Paste referred to above
was brought to the office by the purchaser, who stated it had a
"bad taste." The same was sent to the County Analyst, but
nothing deleterious could be found therein.
(c) Other Foods.
All premises where food is prepared, stored or exposed for sale
are regularly inspected from time to time, and defects remedied
where necessary. Although no serious defects have been found, I
am of opinion that all places where food is prepared or stored
should be licensed by the Local Authority; or, at any rate, they
should be required to be registered.
(d) No cases of food poisoning have been reported during the
year.
