splashed or blown upon it; that the counter or slab on which it is
laid is kept clean, and that knives or other implements used in
connection therewith shall be clean, and that it shall be protected
from contamination by flies.
There are only three or four stalls within the District from
which meat is sold, the remaining meat retailers having the usual
butchers' shops.
On the 5th March, 1925, I called a meeting of all the butchers
in the District, and supplied each with a copy of the Public Health
(Meat) Regulations, 1924, and an interesting discussion took place;
but with few exceptions, no difference has been made in the shops
with a view to complying with the Regulations.
I was hoping that I should have been able to persuade the
tradesmen in question to have kept their meat behind glass, but
the explanation of the regulations given by the Ministry of Health
has been quoted from time to time against this suggestion. Sufficient
time has now elapsed for something to have been done in the
direction of covering meat exposed for sale in butchers' shops, and
I am contemplating taking some action in the Local Petty Sessions
with respect thereto.
There are no public slaughter-houses in the District.

Private Slaughter-houses.
