Below is a summary of the food premises in the Borough, classified

In the Borough, there are 321 premises registered under
Section 16 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1955, 228 in respect of ice
cream and 93 in respect of preserved foods.
Under the provisions of the Middlesex County Council Act,
1950, relating to hawkers of food and their premises, there were
93 hawkers on the register at the end of 1960. Of these 23 have
storage premises in the Borough and 70 have their storage premises
in other areas.
Post-Mortem Inspection of Animals
No slaughtering of animals took place in the Borough during
1960.
Report on Slaughterhouse Facilities
In October, 1960, notification was received of acceptance by
the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of the Council's
report on slaughterhouse facilities. The report, prepared in accordance
with the provisions of the Slaughterhouse Act, 1958 and the
Slaughterhouse (Reports) Direction, 1959, after consultation with
the organisations as appeared to the Council to represent the
interests concerned, was to the effect that no slaughtering facilities
are required in Southgate.
Milk Regulations and Milk Sampling
During the year under review, fiftynine samples of milk were
obtained and submitted to the Public Health Laboratory for
bateriological examination. All samples gave satisfactory results.
