In the period from June to September, 1959, permission was
given by the Council to the Ministry of Agrictulture, Fisheries and
Food to carry out experimental treatment in two sections of the
Council's soil sewers, using poison bait containing respectively
sodium fluoroacetate and fluoracetamide. All work was done by
Ministry personnel. From the report subsequently received, it was
clear that the experiments were successful. When submitting it,
the Ministry expressed their thanks to the Council for help given.

Southgate and Oakwood Underground Stations are also available
to the public.
All public conveniences in the district are inspected by members
of the Public Health Department Staff. This inspection
includes conveniences provided for the use of the public in
public-houses and hotels. Defects are brought to the notice of the
Borough Surveyor's Department or are notified to the proprietors
of the premises in which the public conveniences are situated.
Ponds and Rubbish Dumps.
These continue to be kept under observation. During the
summer months, spraying was carried out where and when necessary
to prevent insect breeding.
With the approaching full development of the Borough, many
small areas of vacant land are being built upon. The problem of
dumping rubbish on these areas, therefore, is gradually disappearing.
