"It would be quite impossible to prepare a notice which would
draw all the pertinent facts relating to exclusion from swimming
baths to the attention of parents and children. I feel that any such
notice would have to be condensed, I have therefore drafted a
brief statement, which I very strongly feel should be prominently
displayed at the swimming bath. I would be most grateful to have
your opinion on the wording, size of notice, position where it
should be displayed, etc. Please do not hesitate to make any
criticisms or suggestions. These, I am quite sure, would be really
valuable."
NOTICE
CHILDREN WITH ANY SKIN INFECTION
OR WITH A VERRUCA ON THE SOLE OF
THE FOOT WILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO
THE SWIMMING POOL.
W. C. HARVEY,
Medical Officer of Health.
The notice mentioned in the letter was duly prepared, and
has been exhibited at the Bath. It is too soon yet to say what
effect this action will have, but I have every hope that what is
fast becoming a real nuisance among school children will
be decreased by what we have done.
Rivers and Streams.
During the year under review, two complaints were received
concerning minor nuisances from a stream in the Borough. These
were dealt with immediately.
Prevention of Damage by Pests Act, 1949.
During 1959, 438 complaints of rats and mice were received
and dealt with, as against 404 in 1958.
In March, 1959, a baiting and poisoning treatment was carried
out by the Borough Engineer's Department in the Council's soil
sewers. 306 manholes were baited. The poison bait used for this
treatment was sausage rusk plus zinc phosphide. In 146 of the
manholes baited, complete or part takes of bait were noted.
