(xi) Dental Service.
At the September meeting of the Health Area Sub-Committee,
I had to report that our sole remaining Dental Officer would be
absent from work for about six months due to illness, and that,
during this time, no Dentist would be available for the priority
classes. Even prior to September, it was, of course, impossible for
one Dental Officer to attend to the needs of approximately 10,(XX)
school children, and the priority classes as well. This position regarding
Dental Staff is not peculiar, however, to this area, or even'
to Essex, but is of national importance.
The following gives particulars of the service given to Expectant
and Nursing Mothers, and Children under 5 years of age, not
attending school:—
2.—SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
(i) Water.
Mr. H. G. Ramsey, Chief Engineer of the South Essex Waterworks
Company has kindly given me the following report with
regard to the water supply to the district:—
" (a) There have been no new extensions of public water supply
during the year 1949, other than those necessitated by the supply to
the temporary and permanent housing sites,
