Other Foods.
There are fourteen bakehouses in the district, one being
underground. The Council considered a report on this basement
bakehouse and they were not satisfied that it was suitable for use as
regards light and ventilation. A Notice was served upon the occupier
requiring him to terminate the use. of the premises as a bakehouse. He
appealed against the notice before the local Court of Summary
Jurisdiction and it was agreed to adjourn the hearing of the appeal sine
die on account of the war. Defects found at two bakehouses were
remedied after informal action.
In addition to visits to the slaughter houses, 402 visits were made
to premises and stalls where foods are prepared, stored or exposed for
sale, and, with a few exceptions, these were found to be kept in a
satisfactory condition,,
The following list shows the amount of food which was surrendered
and then condemned from shops and stalls, and afterwards destroyed:-
