Convalescent Home Treatment.
Prior to 5th July last the Maternity and Child Welfare Authority
and the Education Authority accepted responsibility for the provision
of Convalescent Home treatment in respect of pre¬school
and school children, whose parents were assessed to contribute to
the cost of treatment in accordance with their means.
In future these arrangements will apply only to children who
do not require either medical or nursing supervision and treatment.
If such medical or nursing supervision is required in respect
of a child recommended for convalescent home treatment, the
responsible authority will now be the Regional Hospital Board.
Application for any future cases which may arise must be
made to the Secretary of the local Hospital Management Committee,
who will arrange for them to be dealt with by the Almoner
of a suitable hospital in the group.
The Local Health Authority will no longer be expected to
assume financial responsibility for cases referred to the Regional
Hospital Board.
Children.
Five children recommended by the Clinic Medical Officers
were sent to Convalescent Homes by the Maternity and Child
Welfare Authority.
Nursing Mothers.
Arrangements were made for 2 mothers and their babies
to have periods of convalescence following confinement.
