Attendances.
Good attendances were experienced at the clinics until after
the second evacuation in June, 1940. Following this, and also as
a result of repeated air raid warnings and nightly attack, there
were many broken appointments. After some weeks, however,
attendances improved and maintained a steady level.
Several other factors have also had an adverse affect on
attendances mainly under the following heads:—
(1) Park House Clinic being closed due to unexploded bombs
it was necessary to transfer the usual attendants there to
Leyton Green Clinic.
(2) October 21st—November 2nd, all Park House work again
transferred to Leyton Green Clinic.
(3) November 4th, 1940, Cathall Road Combined Treatment
Centre being opened, all Park House work was again
transferred there until the end of the period dealt with in
this report.
(4) Many of the regular acceptors of dental treatment also
accepted evacuation.
Percentage Acceptance Rates.
These figures show big differences in many instances from
previous reports, and in present circumstances cannot be used in a
comparative sense. For example:—
Norlington acceptance rate shows a fall from 73.5 per cent. to
50.0 per cent. This was due to evacuation following so closely
upon inspection that there had not been time for acceptance forms
to be returned.
Mayville shows an increase from 14 per cent, to 73.6 per cent.
Here the exceptionally low figure in the first instance was due, as
above, to the 1939 evacuation following closely upon inspection.
When the 1940 inspection was due the school was temporarily
closed, and notices were sent to the children's homes to attend at
the clinic for inspection, and, where necessary, treatment. Consequently
nearly every case found to require treatment received it
at the time of inspection, and all wastage due to the parent forgetting
to return the form, or due to children being evacuated
before they had received treatment, was eliminated.
Secondary Schools.
All pupils attending the Leyton Secondary School for Boys
have been inspected and offered treatment where necessary irrespective
of whether they normally attend there, or are attending
there from other areas.
