Dental Treatment in Reception Areas.
Central School Camps.
Early in July, 1940, all children at the Ruckholt and Tom
Hood Camps were dentally inspected by one of the Council's
Dental Officers.
Parents were invited to accept treatment in the usual manner,
and the results notified to the respective County Authorities. As
little had been done for these children by the middle of November,
except by way of emergency treatment at the Tilford Camp, one of
your Dental Officers established a dental clinic in the Camp hospital,
and having inspected all the new entrants since the July inspection,
and also re-inspected all children who had sound mouths the previous
July, carried out complete treatment for all the acceptors. Below
is a brief analysis of the nine days work:—
Number of children examined 245
Number referred for treatment 114
Number actually treated 106
Fillings—Permanent teeth 137
Extractions—Permanent teeth 41
Temporary teeth 42
Scalings 7
Local anaesthetics administered 102
At Tom Hood Camp one of the West Sussex Dental
Officers had commenced treatment but had been held up from
September 22nd until November 5th by chicken-pox in the Camp.
Here again all new entrants were inspected, together with the
sound mouths from the July inspection. Treatment, although
proceeding, is much in arrear being only on a part-time basis.
Secondary Schools.
The Leyton Secondary School children evacuated to Brentwood
have received treatment during the year.
Elementary Schools.
Mr. Horton worked full-time in the County of Essex until the
end of March, 1940. Thereafter several sessions weekly which
were reduced in frequency as the number of Leyton children in
Essex was reduced by further evacuation to new areas.
