FACTORY & WORKSHOP ACT, 1901.
There are 136 Workshops on the register. These have been
visited and 52 notices have been served to abate overcrowding
and do necessary work to remedy uncleanly or insanitary
conditions found to exist.
OUTWORKERS.
350 addresses of persons doing home work have been received.
These have been visited, with a view of ascertaining that the work
is done under cleanly and sanitary conditions, and in 118 instances
notices have been served to obtain same. On receipt of notifications
of infectious disease the lists of-addresses are referred to, and
during the year in four instances home work was found in the
infected houses.
This was removed and disinfected, and the firms supplying
the work notified as to the existence of the disease. This
notification proved to be sufficient to prevent any more work
being given out until the risk of infection was over.
DINING ROOMS.
During the year the Dining Rooms in the district were
visited periodically in order to see that the food supplied and the
premises were in a satisfactory condition; where necessary
notices were served to remedy insanitary conditions.
