The population of Hornchurch contains a large number of
young people and this fact tends to explain the high birth rate.
Births.
The number of births registered in the District during the year
was 1,113.
The number of births corrected for inward and outward transfers is as follows:—

The percentage of illegitimate births to the total registered
was 2.7.
Deaths.
There were 381 deaths registered in the District during the year,
this number including 92 belonging to other Districts which have,
therefore, been subtracted.
182 males and 141 females whose residence was in Hornchurch
died elsewhere and these deaths are added as inward transfers
making a nett total of 612.
The birth rate calculated on a population of 76,000 is 19.7 per thousand estimated population.
