Mass X-Ray.
The Mass X-Ray Unit visited the Borough of Hendon on three occasions during the
year.
(1) Central Hendon on 26th, 27th and 31st May, 1955.
The sessions were open to the general public without appointment.
The success of a public session is dependent on two factors, (i) the publicity
given and (ii) the willingness of the informed person to attend.
Publicity was carried out by the Public Health Department and a study was made
of the value of different methods of publicity.
The methods used were as follows:-
(i) Advertisement, three inch double column, in two weekly local papers, two
weeks prior to the visit of the Unit.
(ii) Letter from Medical Officer of Health in local papers.
(iii) Letter and leaflets to private practitioners in Central Hendon area.
(iv) Leaflets distributed through:Education
Officer - Schools
Borough Librarian - Libraries
Area Medical Officer - Clinics
Chief Officers - Town Hall staff and enquiry offices.
(v) Double crown posters in shops. Library, Town Hall, Clinics.
(vi) Banner advertising Mass X-ray displayed in Hendon Central Circus on the days
of the Unit's visit.
(vii) Three minute film "Also Coming Shortly" at two local cinemas in the Hendon
Central Area, for the week 23rd to 28th May, 1955.
During the various sessions a random sample of the persons attending for x-ray
was taken and enquiries made as to how each one had FIRST become aware of the visit
and which method of advertisement caused them to attend for x-ray.
The result was as follows:-
