A multiple layer tomography unit has been installed and has been found to work
satisfactorily. It not only saves time but diminishes considerably the amount of
radiation to which patients are submitted.
Attention is being given to certain chronic chest conditions such as bronchial
carcinoma and chronic bronchitis which cause much ill health. Liaison with the
Thoracic Surgical Units at Clare Hall, Harefield and St. Charles Hospitals has been
maintained, and surgeons from these units now hold out-patient consultative sessions
at the clinic. The medical staff also co operate with the assistant radiotherapist
from the Middlesex Hospital who visits Edgware General Hospital.
A number of doctors holding fellowships of the World Health Organisation and
postgraduate scholars of the National Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis
have attended the clinic for long or short periods during the year. There have been
about. 30 such visitors from overseas during 1955.
