properties of foods. The Regulations lay down the information
that has to be given on the label or in an advertisement when
such claims are made.
The Regulations comprise the final stage of the first major
review since 1953 of the law relating to the labelling of food.
They are largely based on two Reports by the Food Standards
Committee on Food Labelling and on Claims and Misleading
Descriptions. The Regulations will revoke the Labelling of Food
Regulations, 1967, which have not yet come fully into force,
and supersede the provisions of the Labelling of Food Order,
1953, as amended.
Essex County Council Act, 1952—Section 103

Pharmacy & Poisons Act, 1933
During the year seven names and seven premises were
added to the list kept by the Department in pursuance of Section
21 of the Act, the applicants thereby becoming entitled, subject
to the provisions of the Act and the Poisons Rules, 1970, to
sell poisons included in Part 11 of the Poisons List. Ninenames
and thirteen premises were removed from the list.
At the end of the year the list contained the names of 90
persons (or firms) involving some 150 premises.
No formal action was required during the year in respect
of any infringements of this legislation.
On 8th July, 1970 the Poisons ListOrder, 1970(S.I. No.797)
and the Poisons Rules, 1970 (S.I. No. 798) came into operation.
The former made changes to the Poisons List and the latter
revoked and reproduced with amendments the Poisons (No. 2)
Rules, 1968.
