E(3) Meat and Food Inspection
E(3)a Slaughterhouses
There is one privately owned slaughterhouse in the Borough
in which slaughtering takes place daily, in the evenings
of at least three days, and on every Saturday and Sunday.
This slaughtering at irregular hours has been maintained
throughout the year, and in effecting 100% inspection, the
time devoted to. meat inspection is equivalent to the service
of a full lime Public Health Inspector.
Until legislation makes provision for regulating ana
stabilising hours of slaughter, it would appear that the present
exacting situation which the department has to cope with
is likely to continue.
E(3)b Swine Fever and Brucellosis
The introduction of a proposed compulsory slaughter
policy for swine fever has been deferred until early 1963.
The long term free calf vaccination service against Brucellosis
in England, Scotland and Wales is expected to come
into operation on 1st May, 1962.
