The Department's outdoor service includes dealing with
clothing for export to Italy, which now has to be suitably
disinfected.

to £41 5s. Od. which is inclusive of cost of insecticides etc.
used and apportionment charge of the operative's time.
D (5)o Eradication of Bed Bugs
Vermin infestations continue to decrease and the number
of dwelling houses treated during the year was as
follows: —
Privately owned houses 7
Corporation houses 1
With a view to obtaining good control, occupiers are
encouraged to reveal any infestation, when every assistance
is given to eradicate the pests.
D (5)p Heating Appliances (Fireguards) Act 1952
and Regulations 1953
It is now found that most heating appliances sold in
shops are guaranteed to comply with the requirements of the
Regulations.
The probe test was applied to 148 fitments deposited
at various shops, and all were found to be satisfactory.
Appliances which are repaired or overhauled at electricians'
shops are not, on completion, enforced by law to comply
with the prescribed safety factor. This appears to be an
outstanding deficiency in the Regulations.
Special attention is devoted to appliances which are sold
in second-hand establishments.
D (5)q Mosquito Control
The ditches which intersect the Belvedere marsh area
were kept under constant review during the year. Many of
the watercourses were treated with larvicide, thus maintaining
good control.
No complaints were received during the year.
