During the year the Staff has been increased by the advent
of Miss Simmons who was appointed Junior Clerk in April last
for the purpose of carrying out work in connection with the
routine inspection of children under 5 years of age. Further
reference to this work will be found under the heading of Maternity
and Child Welfare.
In April last Dr. Dunbar retired from the position of
Assistant Medical Officer for Maternity and Child Welfare after
working at the Council's Centres since 1916. She had created a
feeling of great confidence and friendship between herself and
the Mothers and children of the District who will greatly miss
her.
Her work has been carried out during the year by Doctors
McKeown and Dean, who have been appointed Part-time Assistant
Medical Officers of Health for Maternity and Child Welfare
purposes.
At each of the four Maternity and Child Welfare Centres
two Clinics are now held weekly for children under 5 years of
age, and two clinics each month for Ante-Natal purposes. At
all of these clinics one of the Assistant Medical Officers is in
attendance, viz.,
Dr. McKeown—At the Bush Hill Park and Armfiad Road
Centres.
Dr. Dean—At the Ponders End and Totteridge Road Centres.

and that I shall be able to augment the number of houses to be
demolished.
The growth of the District has made it impossible to carry
out as much House-to-House inspection as is necessary and I
sincerely trust that the appointment of an extra Sanitary Inspector
to which the Council have agreed will make it possible to increase
this work during 1934.
Houses continue to be erected in Enfield in large numbers.
It will be noticed that 1,417 houses have been completed by the
