PUBLIC OFFICES,
ENFIELD.
28th March, 1934.
Annual Report of the Medical
Officer of Health, 1933.
To the Chairman and Members of the
Urban District Council of Enfield.
Mr. Chairman and Gentlemen,
1 beg to place before you my Annual Report for the year
1933.
This is a year during which the work of the Department
has grown in accordance with the increasing population and
necessities of the District.
The year was one relatively free from serious Infectious
Disease, but on the other hand an epidemic of Mumps and Whooping
Cough which started early in the year still remains unabated.
There were 45 cases of Diphtheria during the year which
despite the increase in population, is less than we have had since
1924 when there were 15 cases and the population was 62,992.
The Department suffered a very grievous loss during the year
due to the death of Mr. T. M. Boswell who had worked in the
Department for 37 years. During the last 25 years of his life
he was Sanitary Inspector to the south-eastern portion of the
District, and many of the improvements in this area are due to
his careful and painstaking work. Mr. Boswell was a man of outstanding
merit and kindliness and he will be much missed both as
an Official and colleague.
