develops, the acquisition of a suitable site should be kept in mind.
When ground is sought for a new school for Greenford a sufficient
amount might be acquired as a site for a Maternity and Child
Welfare Centre and School Clinic.
"Details of Administration.
"Medical Staff.—At present the medical staff consists of, at
Ealing, Dr. Grace Banham as Child Consultant on three sessions
each week and Dr. Bell as Ante-Natal Consultant attending on three
sessions each month. At Hanwell Dr. Davidson is Child Consultant,
giving his services on one session each week; he is also Medical
Attendant at the Day Nursery.
"I recommend that Dr. Banham and Dr. Davidson be replaced
by a whole-time woman assistant medical officer who would also
replace Dr. Bell on two sessions each month and who would also carry
out duties under the Education Committee in inspecting school
children. With a whole-time medical officer the sessions devoted
to Hanwell could be increased to two each week, if found necessary,
and a session could be arranged at Greenford
"The salary of this officer, £600 per annum, should be paid
in equal parts by the Maternity and Child Welfare Committee and
the Education Committee. The cost of the part-time officers who
would be displaced by the whole-time assistant is as follows :—
Dr. Grace Banham £225 per annum
Dr. J.A.Davidson £75
Dr. J.W.Bell £75
£375
"If the woman assistant medical officer acts as Resident
at the Maternity Hospital the contribution towards her salary from
the Joint Hospitals Committee would be £150, which, divided between
the Education and Maternity and Child Welfare Committees,
would reduce the cost of the assistant to this Committee by £75.
This would mean that a whole-time woman assistant would be a
distinct saving to the Committee of £150.
