Dental Defects.— The following table classifies the dental
defects found at the routine medical inspection. In the subsequent
table it will be seen that of the entrants 55.0 per cent, had sound
teeth, of the intermediate group 58.5 per cent., and of the leavers
no less than 78.0 per cent, had sound teeth before leaving school.
This table indicates the great improvement since 1915 when the
leavers with sound teeth amounted to only 35.7 per cent. This
great improvement, which is one of the most satisfactory results of
school medical inspection, should affect materially the general health
of the children. It indicates that the regular dental inspection and
treatment is carried out on sound lines and that the advice given
on the preservation of the teeth has been accepted and acted upon
by the parents and children alike.
