Crippling Defects.—The total crippled children coming within
the purview of the Local Education Authority are indicated in
Table III., where it is seen that 23 boys and 23 girls were attending
school, and two boys and three girls were kept at home. A complete
record is kept of all crippled children. The Head-teachers
and School Enquiry Officers notify to the School Medical Officer
all cases of crippled conditions whenever they are discovered
whether in attendance or not in attendance at school. Thereafter
all are kept under observation, medical examination being made
as often as is considered desirable, but in any case one medical
examination at least being made in the year to ascertain and record
the progress of the condition. In this way all crippled children
are kept under regular supervision.
Of those cripples not at school three are awaiting admission
to a special school, and two, which are old cases of tuberculosis of
the spine, are about to return to school,
