conjunctivitis, 19 of squint and seven of other conditions were
observed on routine inspection, while 7 cases of blepharitis,
24 of conjunctivitis, 6 of squint, and 16 of other conditions were
found at the School Clinic.
Defective Vision.—During routine inspection 130 children
were found to have such a degree of defective vision that they
were recommended for special examination by an oculist. At the
School Clinic 84 cases of the same character were referred for
similar examination. The large number recognised at the Clinic
indicates the interest the teachers take in the welfare of the school
children. Every year the teachers refer a large number of children
to the School Clinic for examination on account of suspected visual
defect and those indicated are but a proportion of the total number
specially examined.
Ear Disease and Defective Hearing.—Twelve cases of
defective hearing and 18 of otitis media were found in the course
of school medical inspection, and six of defective hearing, 41 of
otitis media and ten of other conditions were met with at the School
Clinic.
