In July, members of the public, the staff and the Health Area Sub-Committee
were shocked at the damage done when Goresbrook nursery was broken into and the
interior completely wrecked. His Worship the Mayor of Dagenham and the Chairman
and Vice-Chairman of the Health Area Sub-Committee, as well as the Chairman of the
Essex County Council Public Health Committee and the County Medical Officer of
Health visited the nursery. In spite of magnificent effort on the part of the staff, the
nursery had to be closed for a fortnight. The total cost of repairs and reinstatement of
the premises was £150. Two boys, aged 11 and 12, who pleaded guilty were subsequently
charged.
