VENEREAL DISEASES
The usual figures are given in appendices, pages 137-140.
These show a record low figure for new cases of Syphilis and
despite national statistics, a fall in the number of new cases
of Gonorrhoea. However, the number of new cases of Non-Gonococcal
Urethritis, a condition undoubtedly venereal, showed a considerable
rise. One must conclude that in Croydon, as elsewhere
in the country, the records of the Venereal Diseases Clinic
support the assertion that promiscuity has increased. The old
slogan of "Preach and Treat" seems once more applicable in
dealing with these conditions.
PUBLIC HEALTH LABORATORY SERVICE
Very considerable use has been made of the facilities for
bacteriological and other laboratory examinations of Public
Health nature. I take this opportunity to thank Dr. A.J. H.
Tomlinson, the Director of the Bacteriological Laboratory,County
Hall, S. E. 1, for his ready assistance and most helpful advice,
which have been available at all times.
