This year has seen the formation of the Surrey Elementary
Schools Athletic Association, to which the Croydon Sports Section
of the C.E.S.A.A. has become affiliated. At the County Sports
Meeting held on July 18th, the Croydon boys took second place
with 19 points.
Football is, of course, most popular among the outside activities.
Unfortunately only one school has a playing field for its own
exclusive use, but much good organised work is being done by the
use of the recreation grounds and by the loan of club grounds. The
use of the Lodge Road ground, by permission of the Education
Committee, has been invaluable for inter, semi-final, and final
matches of the various competitions. These competitions are as
follows:—
(a) A Junior League.
(b) A Senior League.
(c) A Junior Cup Competition.
(d) A Senior Cup Competition.
(e) A Charity Cup Competition.
(f) A Six-a-side Tournament.
In addition, a Boys' Town Team competes in the Surrey
Schools Competitions, and has done remarkably well during the
past four years.
During the past year a Croydon Old Boys' Football Club has
been formed for lads of 14 years of age and upward, who have left
the Elementary School. The "A" Team of this club is doing well
and has reached the semi-final of the Surrey County Youths' Cup
Competition for lads under 17 on August 31st.
There is a pressing need for the further provision of grounds
to meet the needs of the increasing number of boys who wish to
play owing to the rapid devolopment of some form of house or
team system in the schools.
The past season has been a record one for swimming.
The following records have been set up:—
(a) The highest number of children taught to swim.
(b) The highest number of certificates gained (50% increase
over 1924).
(c) The highest number of children and departments
peting.
(d) A record time was made in two championship events at
the Annual Swimming Gala.
