RENT ACT, 1957.
CERTIFICATES OF DISREPAIR.
Applications for Certificates of Disrepair continued to be
received, but at a slower rate than during the first few months after
the coming into operation of the Rent Act, 1957. Seventy-two new
premises were involved, whilst a considerable number of forms of
the various types laid down in the Act were issued in connection
with previous applications.
A noticeable feature is the comparatively few applications
received from landlords for cancellation of Certificates of Disrepair.
Of the 41 Certificates issued up to the end of 1958, only ten had
been cancelled, together with a Certificate issued under the Housing
Repairs and Rents Act, 1954.
Three applications were refused after the tenant had made the
statutory objection, although in two of these instances Certificates
were cancelled on the receipt of further applications from the
landlords.
The following is a summary of the work carried out:—
(1) Number of applications for certificates 60

(a) in respect of some but not all defects 16 (.two
sequently withdrawn)
(b) in respect of all defects 43
(4) Number of undertakings given by landlords under
paragraph 5 of the First Schedule 42
(5) Number of undertakings refused by Local
Authority under proviso to paragraph 5 of the
First Schedule 2
(6) Number of Certificates issued 26
(7) Number of applications for Cancellation of
Certificates 14
(8) Number of applications from landlords or tenants
for Certificates as to the remedying of works
which the landlord has undertaken to remedy 38
All of these were subsequently granted.
