The usual test baiting, to determine the extent of infestation
by rats in sewers, was carried out in April. Although it appeared
to indicate a considerable increase in population, as compared with
the corresponding test in 1956, it is believed that the new method
used gave a truer indication of the conditions obtaining.
The figure for the final treatment may be regarded as encouraging.
