RODENT CONTROL.
A new rodent operative was appointed so that two operatives
have been in action throughout the year. This has greatly
facilitated the work of eradication, as a result of which the total
number of visits for inspection and treatment has risen by 5,791
during the year and treatments carried out show an increase of 395.
The following is a summary of the work carried out during the year :—

SEWER INFESTATION.
It has also been possible to devote more attention to infestation
in the Council's sewers. This is an important part of rodent
control as the sewers may form a reservoir for surface infestation.
Information concerning new techniques in the treatment of sewers
has become available and there is reason to believe that the work
carried out in 1957 will show benefits in the future.
