Disposal of the refuse was carried out at St. Paul's Cray Hill
Park, where low lying ground is being reclaimed. Tipping also
took place at the Baugh Estate, Footscray.
Further vehicles and trailers of improved design, fitted with
diesel engines, have been purchased.
Salvage including waste paper, has been maintained at a high
level in spite of market difficulties.
RAG FLOCK AND OTHER FILLING MATERIALS ACT,
1951.
There are no premises in the district licensed under the Rag
Flock Act.
RIDING ESTABLISHMENTS ACT, 1939.
Four establishments from which horses are hired out for the
purposes of riding have been kept under observation during the
year. One of these closed, but the proprietor opened stables in
another part of the area.
The animals, consisting of 29 horses and 40 ponies, were
inspected by the Veterinary Surgeon appointed for the purpose.
Six visits were made and the animals reported to be in good health.
The Inspectors paid a further 14 visits.
Improvements to stables have been carried out where necessary.
RIVERS AND STREAMS.
The Engineer and Surveyor informs me that an old brick
culvert 66 yards long, through which the Quaggy flows, has been
replaced by a precast concrete culvert on a new and improved
alignment. Points of entry and outfall were constructed.
To preserve stability of the public footpath in Holly Oak Park
and the fences of private property adjacent, the course of the
River Shuttle has been corrected.
For a short length, on the Wyncham Stream, the banks between
Old Farm Avenue and Halfway Street, Sidcup, have been revetted
to protect adjoining carriageways.
Considerable attention has been given by the Department to
the eradication of rats which nest in the banks of the streams.
Close watch is kept on the streams for signs of pollution and a
total of 70 visits have been made to rivers and streams.
