Tuberculosis—During the year 18 cases of this disease were
notified as follows:—
Upper Chislehurst 9
Lower Chislehurst 9
This number is an increase of 7 over those notified in 1914.
Five of the cases notified during the year under review proved fatal.
Sputum utensils and disinfectants are supplied to those patients in
needy circumstances where necessary.
Disinfection.—Forty-one premises, consisting of 74 rooms, were
sprayed and fumigated during the year and the owners or occupiers readily
assisted by cleansing the rooms, ifcc., as soon after disinfection as possible.
The fumigation was carried out by means of Formalin Fumigators, the
clothing, &c., being disinfected in a 1 in 40 per cent. solution of Izal.
The walls and bedding were sprayed with an Equifex Spray Pump, the
solution used being Formic Aldehyde as a 2 per cent. solution.
Drainage.—The question of the drainage of the area known as Mill
Place, in which about 45 houses are involved, was brought before your
notice in the early part of the year. A definite improvement of the system
at present existing in this area can only be effected by means of a new and
comprehensive scheme, and the matter stands adjourned for the present.
Ash-pits.—Fourteen premises were provided with properly covered
movable receptacles for house refuse during the year.
There are still existing a few brick ash-pits, but as these become
defective they are being replaced with proper galvanized bins.
Houses unfit for Human Habitation.—See special Report on
Housing (Inspection of District) Regulations.
Temporary Shelters.—The Temporary Shelters for Fruit Pickers at
Town Court Farm and Thongs Farm have been regularly inspected during
the summer months, and the usual cleansing and lime-washing in respect
of all the occupied shelters has been carried out.
Slaughter houses.—The occupied Slaughter-houses in the District
have been regularly inspected at various times, and the quarterly limewashing,
in accordance with the Regulations, has been done.
