3. Treatment of Minor Ailments.
A Clinic is held at 9 a.m. every morning at 75, High Street,
for this purpose. Children suffering from minor ailments such
as running ears, skin diseases, &c., receive treatment by the
School Nurse or voluntary workers.
In connection with this Clinic a sum of about £50 is spent
annually on bandages, dressings, ointments, medicines, and
appliances. A portion of this is recovered from the parents in
the form of payment for ointments and medicines.
During the financial year 1921-22, £16 were recovered from
parents, and from April, 1922, to date, the sum of £7 6s. has
been recovered. The letter of the Board suggests that no
charge for treatment should be made during the first week or
two ; such an arrangement would permit the large majority of
those who attend to obtain treatment free.
4. Eye Clinic.
About twenty-five Sessions of two and a half hours each are
held during the year. The expenditure may be considered
under three headings: —
(a) Salary of Mr. Loosely, at the rate of 3 guineas per
Session.
(b) Apparatus.
(c) Cost of spectacles.
The necessary appliances have been provided at a cost of
about £15. Spectacles are provided by the Education
Committee, and the cost is recovered from the parents, except
in certain necessitous cases approved by the Education
Committee.
Expenditure to date on Spectacles £28 13 3
Amount recovered from Parents £14 14 6
Amount outstanding £13 18 9
Paragraph 3 of the Board's letter states that refraction
work is not regarded as treatment, and if the Committee takes
this view, no charge can be made for treatment at the Eye
Clinic beyond recovering the cost of the Spectacles provided.
