REPORT OF THE PUBLIC ANALYST, 1915
During the year 1915, 945 samples were submitted for analysis. Of these 49
or a little over 5 per cent, were certified to be adulterated. In the previous year the
percentage was 4 per cent., and, as the samples were of a similar nature, it would
seem that there is still need for continuous activity in the supervision of food.
The number of samples taken during 1915 was 122 less than in 1914, and it appears
to the writer that in a period of particular stress, with rising prices, it is an absolute
necessity to enforce in every legitimate way the Sale of Food and Drugs Acts, the
temptation of any dishonest retailer being greater at such a time than at any other.
A complete list of the samples will be found in the annexed table. The articles
analyzed comprise types of most foods and drinks, but it will only be necessary to
offer a few observations on the more important.
