TRADE NUISANCES.
Complaints of trade nuisances have been received, and
upon proof of the case, they have been abated in every
instance.
UNDERGROUND CONVENIENCES.
There are three underground conveniences, namely,
Marylebone Road, Portland Road, and Oxford Circus; and
since the last Annual Report they have been placed under the
control of the Public Health Department, and it is my duty
to supervise the men employed as attendants, and to inspect
any repairs necessary. This requires a daily or nightly visit;
I have found the premises clean, and the attendants discharging
their duties satisfactorily; and all repairs etc.
brought to my notice have been reported and attended to
forthwith.
RESTAURANTS, DINING-ROOMS, AND COFFEE-
SHOPS.
In conformity with instructions from you I have inspected
149 restaurants, coffee-shops, and dining-rooms in the Borough,
special attention having been given to the kitchens and to
lavatory accommodation. I found 59 kitchens and 21 diningrooms
required cleansing, and 8 W.C.s, very dirty with no
water for flushing, 7 old pan closets with D traps in a bad state,
and 7 W.C.s in direct communication with the kitchen. I
also found a bed in one grill-room, and 5 coffee-shops without
dustbins. There were 65 written intimations of nuisances
served, and minor defects were corrected upon verbal attention
being drawn to them; 30 Council orders were served with
satisfactory results. Since these matters were looked into
I have reinspected the premises and found them all clean and
in good order.

Appended is a statement of my work which admits of tabulation.
