Child Welfare Clinic
Dr. A. White Franklin, Senior Paedriatrician, St. Bartholomew's Hospital and Paedriatric
Consultant to the Corporation of London, reports as follows:—
"The Child Welfare Clinic continues twice weekly at St. Bartholomew's Hospital. A reallocation
of rooms has provided a small suite for the use of the Health Department, which
facilitates the work carried out. New furniture and equipment provided by the hospital helps to
create a less formal atmosphere which is much appreciated.
Routine medical examinations are made of all children attending as well as phenistix tests
for phenylketonuria and tests for early signs of deafness.
The routine immunization procedures are accepted by almost all families. The numbers
vaccinated against smallpox are not so satisfactory." (Infants are vaccinated at 1 year to 18
months of age. Many families move out of the City before the infants are at the age when smallpox
vaccination is normally undertaken).
