In April 1967 theHealth Visitor resigned to take up an appointment in another London Borough.
She was replaced by the appointment of an Assistant Health and Welfare Officer. In the following
month an additional appointment of another Assistant Health and Welfare Officer was made.
The liaison between the Health and Welfare Officers and the doctors of the one general practice
in the City continues. Regular meetings take place and patients who need the supporting care of
the health and welfare services are visited by the Assistant Health and Welfare Officers. In this
way the services provided to aid the sick, handicapped and the elderly infirm, can be so devised
as to give fuller benefit to individuals in specific need.
In the field of maternal and child care, the health of the children under five living in the City
is of a high standard. Home visiting gives the Assistant Health and Welfare Officers the opportunity
to advise and teach health maintenance within the home environment. It also provides social
contact and this is important as many of our families are a moving rather than a settled population.
