ARTIZANS' DWELLINGS, STONEY LANE, HOUNDSDITCH.
These buildings, erected by the late Commissioners of Sewers and opened
in January, 1885, stand upon ground formerly the site of several courts and
alleys in the Ward of Portsoken.
There are five "blocks" of Dwellings, severally named King's—Queen's—
Prince's—North—and South, designed for occupation by persons of the
artizan class; some of the ground floors being let as shops. The buildings
contain 501 rooms, arranged in 241 tenements, and are occupied by 880*
persons, compared with 878 in 1909. 69.6 per cent. are adults, and 30.4
per cent. children (under 14 years).
The death rate for 1910 was 2.3 per 1,000 per annum [all of which
were of children under 5 years of age]. The number of deaths per 1,000
births of children under one year was 68, as against 53.4 for the City
generally.

The number of births was 29, viz.: 10 males and 19 females. The birth
rate was 32.9 per 1,000, and is 2.6 per 1,000 above the average tor the
previous five years.
