Post-mortem
Room.
The alterations to the Post-mortem Room at Golden Lane were completed
early in the year. This place, which had been established for a quarter of a
century, had become obsolete and unfitted for present requirements. It is
now furnished with every modern convenience, and is one of the best
equipped places of the kind in the metropolis.
Disinfectants.
Some important changes have been made in the arrangements for disinfecting
the public roadways. These have effected large economies both in
time and money, while the work has been more efficiently performed.
Intramural
burial in
gaols.
In the course of the year a considerable number of bodies have been
exhumed in various parts of the City and re-interred elsewhere, and in this
connection I would particularly direct attention to the question of intramural
burial in gaols dealt with on page 104.
Ice Creams.
Statutory provisions for regulating the manufacture and sale of Ice Creams
came into operation on the 1st November last, and are now strictly enforced
throughout the City.
Dairies and
Milk Shops.
In June last the administration of the several Dairies, Cowsheds and Milk
Shops Orders was transferred from the County Purposes Committee to my
Department, since which date the number of persons registered as purveyors
of milk in the City has been considerably increased. New Regulations for
dealing with these places in the City, in conformity with modern requirements,
have been drafted, and are now under consideration.

The City of London Registration District comprises an area of 678.3 acres
(excluding tidal water and foreshore), or 1.06 square miles, equal to a square
of 1.0295 miles to a side.
The area of "Registration London'' is 74,839 acres (excluding tidal water
and foreshore), or 116.9 square miles, equal to a square of 10.81 miles to a side.
