POPULATION.
The undermentioned figures are abstracted from the Registrar-General's
Report, dated 30th December, 1901, on the Census of England and Wales,
1901 (County of London).
The "City of London" may mean either of the following:
Parliamentary Borough.
Municipal City.
Registration District.
Area. Statute Acres. | Inhabited Houses. | Population. | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1891. | 1901. | 1891. | 1901. | ||
For Parliamentary, Municipal, Police, and School Board purposes the
boundaries of the City are co-terminous.
These figures represent the population on the night of the 1st April, 1891
and 1901.
A Day Census—the number of persons actively engaged in the City during
the daytime—has been taken on three occasions, viz., in 1866, 1881, and
1891. It is a matter for regret that no Day enumeration was made in the
City dUring the last Imperial Census year.
