Stillbirths
and multiple
births, 1910.
The annual reports of medical officers of health show that in the large majority of districts considerable
effort is made to ensure the proper feeding and care of infants by visiting houses in which
births have occurred. In some two.thirds of the London districts consultation centres have been
provided to which infants can be taken, and in about one-third of the districts steps are taken to assist
in the proper feeding of expectant and nursing mothers. In the early part of 1911 enquiry was
made for the Council by Dr. Wanklyn as to the measures adopted in the several districts, and the
information thus obtained is given in the following table. The need for the services of health visitors

mortality.

is especially urged in the report of the medical officer of health of Islington, where, as will be observed, no advantage is taken of the Notification of Births Act.
