Only in one instance was it found necessary to apply for a summons, an
Abatement Order being made.
The Factories visited have generally been satisfactory.
Workshops.—Some of the workshops in the South and part of East divisions
have been inspected, and particulars obtained for the register. Many
workshops have been inspected in other parts of the district upon receipt of
complaint or notice of drainage work, and where found necessary notices
served for the abatement of Nuisances. Generally the workshops were found
satisfactory.
Smoke Shafts.— During the year 118 complaints of black smoke were
received—250 separate observations of from one to two hours duration
were made. 25 Notices for the abatement of the Nuisances were served with
satisfactory results.
The Borough Council's two chimneys in Georgiana Street and Longford
Street are the worst offenders, and attention has been called to these by me
without, however, any material improvement.
Effluvia Businesses.—Time has not permitted any special attention being
given to these yet.
One complaint was received and attended to by me.
Generally.—During: the temporary absence of the district Sanitary Inspectors through illness or resignation, etc.,
I have had charge of the South Division for two months one week, and part of East Division one week, also superintending drainage works in Factory and Workshop premises in various parts of the District, and preparing plans for combined drainage as occasion required.
