Part III. — Additional Dwelling Accommodation.
The Borough Council now possess power to adopt Part III. of the Housing
of the Working Classes Act, 1890, which includes power to acquire land
(Sect. 57), to lease, appropriate, or purchase existing working class dwelling
houses and to erect or convert buildings into dwelling-houses (Sects 57-59),
and to manage and regulate dwelling-houses (Sections 61.2 and Schedule VI.)
belonging to the Borough Council.
The limitation of the exercise of the power within the Borough only is
removed by the Housing of the Working Classes Act, 1900 (63 & 64 Vict,
cap. 59).
BATHS AND WASH-HOUSES.
The erection of the new Baths and Wash-houses in Prince of Wales Road,
Kentish Town, is making progress.
§ 4.—SCHOOLS.
In accordance with the resolution adopted by the late Vestry of St. Pancras
on the 17th February, 1897—that Infants' and Girls' Schools should be
inspected from time to time, and that this duty should be undertaken during
the winter months by the Woman Sanitary Inspector—59 inspections and 8
reinspecticns of public and private elementary schools have been made by her,
and will be found accounted for in the Report of the Woman Inspector under
the next Section.
§ 5.—FACTORIES AND WORKSHOPS.
Reports of Inspectors.- The following are the Reports made to me by the
Sanitary Inspectors of Factories and Workshops:—

To the Medical Officer of Health.
Sir,
I beg to report that during the year ending 29th December, 1900, the
following work has been done:—
Bakehouses.—These have been regularly inspected both in April and October,
and the necessary cleansing and limewhiting done. Only in a few cases (60)
was it necessary to serve notices, the conditions generally being satisfactory.
There are now 200 Bakehouses on the Register, 182 being in use as bakehouses,
and 18 unoccupied or used for other purposes.
In the revision of the boundaries of the New Boroughs two bakehouses are
transferred to other districts, and three are brought into this Borough.
Factories.—Some of the Factories in the South and part of the East divisions
have been inspected as to sanitary conveniences and drainage, also a few
Factories in other parts of the district upon receipt of complaints, or for
drainage works, and notices served where occasion required.
