Whitfield Burial Ground, Tottenham Court Road, is about to be laid out as
a public garden by your Vestry, at the joint expense of the London County
Council and the Vestry.
DWELLINGS.
House to Home Inspections.—The number of streets inspected from house
to house during the year was 18, consisting of 701 houses, of which 651
were occupied, and 55 unoccupied and passed over; the inspected houses contained
4462 rooms, of which 4284 were occupied and 178 unoccupied, by 1793
separate families, consisting of 3823 adults and 1796 children (Table II).
Houses Occupied in Separate Dwellings.—A list of blocks of houses
constructed in separate and self-contained dwellings in St. Pancras will be found
among the Reference Lists at the end of the Report. The number of houses
occupied in separate dwellings, which are not self-contained is very large and
is unknown.
Registered tenement houses.—The number of houses occupied in separate
dwellings or " let in lodgings to members of more than one family," that
are registered under the bye-laws in force is 164. These houses were
re-inspected in the autumn by the Temporary Sanitary Inspectors, and such
notices were served as were necessary to place them in conformity with the
bye-laws.
Registered common lodging-houses.—The supervision of these houses is about
to be handed over from the Metropolitan Police to the London County
Council, when no doubt a new and improved code of Bye-laws will be
framed.
Underground dwellings. —The number of underground rooms closed against
occupation as separate dwellings during the year was 53.
