In July, 1888, the dwellings over the stables in Fortess Mews were represented
under the Artizans Dwellings Act, 1868, as unfit for human habitation,
and the Chief Surveyor having recommended demolition, the owner closed
the mews. Recently certain of these dwellings were found to be re-occupied.
Your Vestry thereupon resolved that, provided the owner give an undertaking
not to use any part of such Mews for human habitation, no objection
will be made to the use by him of the Mews as stables and coach-houses
provided always that any repairs necessary are executed in such a manner as
to prevent any nuisance, and to fit them properly to such uses, and that they
continue to be maintained in a sanitary condition.
