Report of the Medical Officer of Health. 91
sent 79, compared with 124 in 1914. The smaller number sent by
the London Insurance Committee can be accounted for by the fact
that during the last six months of the year there were fewer applications
for sanatorium treatment. 53 were sent in the first six months,
and only 26 from July to December. In addition to this, patients
seeking sanatorium treatment may now be sent for examination
direct to the dispensary by their panel doctor instead of as hitherto
having to make application in the first place to the Insurance
Committee. This is a saving of time. It means, however, that
some of the cases classed as being recommended by "Private
Practitioners" would under the old arrangement have been included
under those sent by the Insurance Committee.
Fifteen cases came from outside the Borough. They were
examined and if found to be requiring treatment were transferred
to a dispensary in their own area.
