Disinfection.
The total number of rooms disinfected after the occurrence
of cases of infectious disease was 4,404, (774 in Clapham, 290 in
Putney, 1,218 in Streatham, 737 in Tooting, and 1,385 in Wandsworth),
compared with 3,787 in 1912, 4,419 in 1911, and 2,166
in 1910.
The increase was largely due to the increase in the number of
disinfections carried out after Measles.
1,801 lots of bedding were stoved at the Disinfecting Station,
compared with 1,744 in 1912, 1,603 in 1911, and 1,230 in 1910.
The 1,801 lots of bedding included the following :—1,064 beds,
1,175 bolsters, 2,710 pillows, 1,241 mattresses, 613 palliasses, 2,060
sheets, 1,556 quilts, 621 cushions, 6,247 articles of clothing, 3,011
blankets, 110 carpets, and 2,693 extra articles, a total of 23,101
articles, compared with 21,401 in 1912, 21,613 in 1911. and 15,430
in 1910.
1,454 premises were disinfected after Measles and 420 after
Pulmonary Tuberculosis, compared with 1,006 and 426 in 1912.
32 beds, nine bolsters, 23 pillows, 61 mattresses, 17 palliasses,
Seven sheets, six quilts, 10 cushions, 157 articles of clothing, 11
blankets, four carpets, and 129 extra articles, were removed and
destroyed by request of the owners during the year.
Disinfection was also carried out by the Sanitary Staff at
premises after non-notifiable diseases, chiefly Cancer, and the sum
of £30 11s. 0d., was received for such disinfection.
618 rooms were disinfected with sulphur in consequence of
their verminous condition and 75 lots of verminous bedding disinfected,
compared with 574 rooms and 86 lots of bedding in 1912.
I have regularly visited the Disinfecting Station during the
year, and am able to report that the work has been carried out
by the staff to my entire satisfaction.
