57 smoke nuisances were reported during the year : two in
Clapham, 22 in Putney, four in Streatham, and 31 in Wandsworth.
In all 417 observations for black smoke were made by the Inspectors,
57 nuisances were reported and 44 notices served.
Four complaints of black smoke were received from the Public
Control Department of the London County Council with regard to
four premises, and five complaints from the coal Smoke Abatement
Society with regard to eight premises.
These complaints were all at once attended to and the premises
kept under observation.
119 soil pipes were repaired, 18 in Clapham, 14 in Putney, 33
in Streatham, 13 in Tooting, and 41 in Wandsworth, compared
with 159 in 1912, 194 in 1911, and 153 in 1910.
746 leaky roofs and gutters were repaired, compared with
870 in 1912, 869 in 1911, and 1,225 in 1910.
23 unwholesome or dilapidated houses were cleansed and
repaired, five in Streatham, six in Tooting and 12 in Wandsworth,
compared with 60 in 1912, 30 in 1911, and 38 in 1910.
A large amount of work has again been carried out to abate
nuisances arising from damp conditions. In all, 1,112 premises
have been dealt with, 131 in Clapham, 34 in Putney, 562 in Streatham,
73 in Tooting, and 312 in Wandsworth ; and in 384 of these,
41 in Clapham, four in Putney, 190 in Streatham, 21 in Tooting,
and 128 in Wandsworth, damp courses have been inserted.
I have this year also personally inspected all the premises
where damp courses were inserted as well as a large number of
premises where this had been done in previous years, and I am able
to report that the dampness has been quite removed and the houses
rendered much healthier.
The number of unclassified nuisances was 947, 221 in Clapham,
51 in Putney, 347 in Streatham, 39 in Tooting, and 289 in Wandsworth,
compared with 929 in 1912, 765 in 1911, and 746 in 1910.
