Council for £2,100. The remaining piece of surplus land forming

is still in hand.
Church
Lane-
74. An arrangement has been made with the London County
Council for a rectification of the line of Church
Lane, Tooting, where that road abuts upon Tooting
Common. The Borough Council was also able to secure the
addition to the public way of a small strip of Tooting Common
at the eastern corner of Mantilla Road.
Tooting Bec Boad
Widening.
75. In connection with the formation of new roads (Montana
Road and Avoca Road), on the Elmwood House
Estate, Balham, and the erection of houses there,
arrangements were made for parts of Tooting Bee Road upon which
the estate abuts to be widened to not less than 54 feet. The estimated
cost of the improvement (including the paving works, but
excluding pipe alterations) is £1,450, and after considerable correspondence
the London County Council agreed to carry out the
widening subject to the Borough Council contributing one-third
of the expense. This condition was accepted by the Borough
Council, provided its contribution did not exceed £483.
Tooting Bec
Gardens
Widening.
76. The widening of Tooting Bee Gardens, Streatham, at the
Woodlands Estate, has now been carried out. The
Borough Council was also able to arrange for the
widening of this road at the junction of Mitcham Lane in connection
with the erection of an addition to the Electric Supply Company's
transformer station there. The London County Council is contributing
one-half the net cost of this further widening.
Streatham
High Road.
77. For several years past the Borough Council has been
pressing the London County Council for consent to
form a footpath at the side of Streatham Common
adjoining Streatham High Road and to round off the corners of the
Common at the junction of that road with Streatham Common
North and Streatham Common South. The approval of the County
Council to these works has now been obtained. The scheme
provides for the formation of a tar-dressed footpath with granite
kerb, alongside the carriageway in Streatham High Road, the
estimated cost being £265.
